What's really in the box

Not just a bow. Your new Saturday morning.

Twenty minutes where nothing else exists

Phone in the house. Feet set. One slow breath, the string at your cheek, and for a moment the week goes quiet. Archery doesn't let you think about anything else — that's the point.

That sound

The soft thump of an arrow hitting the boss. The first time, you'll laugh. By the tenth, you'll be walking to the target faster than you meant to.

Progress you can see

Week one, your arrows land everywhere. A few weekends later, they start to group. Few hobbies show you so clearly that you're getting better.

You've been thinking about this for a while.

Maybe you tried it once on holiday. Maybe you've watched the videos. Then you looked at the gear — draw weights, spines, left-hand, right-hand — and closed the tab.

  • Which draw weight? 20 lbs. Chosen.
  • Left or right hand? Both. Solved.
  • Which arrows fit? Our 12-pack. Matched.
  • How do I set it up? Video. Step by step.

Honest answers before you buy

“Is this a toy?”

No. It's a real recurve bow with real arrows, built for adults. Light enough to learn on, serious enough to keep you shooting for seasons.

“Won't 20 lbs feel too weak?”

It's the weight most beginners learn on, because good form comes first. Too heavy and you shake, flinch and give up. When you're ready for more, the Next Step bow is waiting.

“Will I actually stick with it?”

Archery is one of those hobbies that hooks you on the first good shot. And because it lives in your garden, there's no club to drive to and no excuse to skip.

“Who are you?”

Anchor & Arrow is a small, independent shop for people starting out in archery. We do one thing: help you take your first shot, and the next hundred.

Questions, answered

Getting started

What's the best archery set for a beginner?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

A takedown recurve bow at 20 lbs with matched arrows, an arm guard and finger protection. That's exactly what the First Draw Starter Kit contains.

Is archery hard to learn?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Easy to start, satisfying to get good at. With the basics — stance, anchor, release — you can reach the target in your first session. Getting your arrows to group takes a few weekends of practice.

Can I teach myself archery?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Yes, to get started. Our setup video and beginner guides cover the essentials. If you catch the bug, a local club or a taster session is a great next step.

Am I too old to start archery at 30, 40 or 50?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Not at all. Archery rewards patience and technique more than strength, which is why so many people take it up as adults. A light 20 lbs bow lets you learn at your own pace.

Is archery an expensive hobby?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Less than most people think. A complete First Draw kit is £99, once. After that, the only regular cost is the odd replacement arrow — no club fees needed to start.

Can I shoot a bow in my garden in the UK?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Yes. Archery is a legal sport across the UK, and you don't need a licence to own or shoot a bow. Two rules matter: shoot on private land with the owner's permission, and keep every arrow inside the property. You are responsible for where your arrows land. Using a bow to kill or take wild birds or animals is a criminal offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Our garden range guide shows you how to set up a safe space, with a solid backstop behind the target.

Can a left-handed archer use the First Draw bow?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Yes. It has an arrow rest on both sides, so the same bow works for left- and right-handed archers.

20 lbs or 30 lbs?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Start at 20 lbs if you've never shot. Choose 30 lbs if you've tried archery before or want to shoot longer distances.

Delivery, returns & guarantee

How long does delivery take, and does it cost anything?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Delivery is free on every order. Each kit is packed to order rather than sitting in a warehouse — that's how we keep a complete kit at £99 — and most orders arrive within 12–25 days.

How do I track my order?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

You get a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships. You can also check it any time on our Track my order page.

What if it arrives damaged?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Send us a photo at contact@anchorarrow.co.uk within 30 days of delivery and we'll send a replacement part or product at our cost — usually with no need to send anything back.

Can I return it if it isn't right for me?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to change your mind. Email contact@anchorarrow.co.uk and we'll send you the return address. Items must come back in their original condition, with all parts. Return postage is paid by the customer — unless the item is faulty or arrived damaged, in which case we sort it out at our cost. Your refund is issued within 14 days of receiving the return.

Is there a guarantee?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Yes — every bow comes with a 2-year guarantee against manufacturing defects. If a part fails through normal use, we replace it. Not covered: dry-firing (releasing the string without an arrow), which can damage any bow, and arrows broken on impact, which are a normal part of shooting. To claim, email contact@anchorarrow.co.uk with your order number and a photo.

Which payment methods do you accept?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Card, Apple Pay and PayPal, through a secure checkout.

Can I talk to a real person?

keyboard_arrow_down
add remove

Yes. Email contact@anchorarrow.co.uk — whether it's a setup question or help choosing, a real person replies the same working day.
